Hi AMIR/ other Forum Friends, 1.Can you please explain the diffeence betwenn Preliminary and transtional year. 2. If I want to apply for Neurology, How can i Find the Preliminary / Transitional Program which have links to Neurology or do I need to apply separately if so is there a chance I may match for one but not the other? I did analzyed this forum which gives some imformation, but still I am not clear what I need to exactly to apply for Neurology. All your Input will be much valued. Thanks .

there are different programs and some do offer preliminary position, some don't, in the last case you have to apply separately for prelim med and neuro; some accept application for year 2008, some - for 2009, so you would have to actually apply for NEURO, PRELIM MED (these are not "linked" to neuro) in the same match (depending on the programs, off course); you have to go to FREIDA and you'll see all those programs also, be careful with transitional year, because i personally read on one program's web site that they do not accept transitional year, only preliminary, so you have to contact each program that you are interested in separately and find out exact requirements for each. good luck btw, what state are you loking at?

crazydr, 1.The programs in US don't accept other countries' residency programs. However doing internal medicine may add some positive point on your CV from the point of view of some programs not all. Some prefer to high Fresh graduate whitout any experiences. 2. To start your residency in Neurology, you have to completed one year GME with at least 8 months in Internal Medicine. So, you don't have any other choice except doing prelim in IM. Some people say apply for transitional and when you matched to it, ask the PD to have 6 months rotation in IM, I don't think PD would accept this. 3. If you want to apply for Neuro, you have to contact all the Neurology and Preliminary Internal Medicine (find them on FRIEDA) and apply to them if you meet their criteria. Also apply for CAT internal Medicine to have some Backup. Some neuro program are CAT that means they offer prelim and some are ADV theat means they don't offer prelim and you have to match to them and prelim as well to be able to start your residency.
