Has success story 1981, 82 grad has conquar st 1 by kap study only by attending it leads her to 95 in early this yr or last yr. Lost track of her , but sure she will makes it since already win the most boring , difficult st 1. She motivates me alot though not get chance to speak to her personally, but some one close to me know her very well , they told me the good success news to me, by indierctly tell me ... I can do it since senior sis can do it in reasonable study time with right course, material & attitude . This is recent true success story. Knowing in past yrs ago my senior consultant also did all by help of compass , kaplan courses, tell me if he can do it, we can too , by time b4 got contact from him, we also thought we're already very very, too old for the game , that mental of already verty very old, too late is mainly cause of rumors ppl friends relatives sibs etc do not want to see your success shining bright furure prospective that tell us not to do , too late blah blah blah & try to disturb, distract you in by all means , any possible ways . But then , we cannot do the exm by time after that senior advice , due to our situation, mainly as usual, survival... financial things , though now is not much more better, but just wiser to go for exm after that senior consultant encouragement when we're better abit than b4 in our life, finacially ??. GL GL GL happy success study to all of us

vk you're welcome , just the ... more than one true happy success stories to share. But still all have own ability , luck , path too . So do not want to discourage , also do not want to give high , wrong hope, does not matter yr of grad long ago or recent , age of out of practice or recent practice, after all if you really want , try your best . The decision is all up to you, to be success is up to you too , though some time beyond your control. But you will get help, support for sure if plan to go ahead for the exm . The point is you can do it , there is score that matter if grad long ago or not as IMG to get better prg . GL

deepu wrote:Hi guys, I am an old graduate 2001. I just started preparing for usmle step 1 and need a lot of motivation. have a few questions, my kaplan lecture notes are as old as my graduation 2002. will it be enough or should i get hold of 2007? i am planing to read only kaplan, maybe refer to BRS and after kaplan i plan to do FA. Kindly advice guys Hi Deepu, I think I'm in similar situation. I'm 2000 graduate and I have 2004 Kaplan DVD lectures and notes but on my laptop only. I would like to have them in the books too... I dont want to always look at that small screen whenever I want to study something. Does anyone know what is the cheapest way to copy all that suff in some notebook form? And same as you, I'm little bit anxious to rely on Kaplan only... especialy about recent concerns expressed somewhere here on the forum that in this last year Kaplan was not so successfull in helping students getting good results. I guess problems with information update from Kaplan side... What do you guys think about that? Some experience on that or good advise how to cover possible holes in Kaplan for 2008 tests? Thanks everybody... Deepu did you make plan? When is your step1? I think I will go for August or September... I'm waiting ECFMG respond to continue with my online application. All the best in your study, Lee.

Nice... It seems I'm not alone. Maybe that is the influence of New Year... Many people are trying to make some U turns in their lives or to make new beginnings. Maybe I'm one of them... When is your date? How did you make a plan? I'm thinking to satrt by Kaplan's recommendations and that plan to put all subjects in 60 days by studying 4hrs per day. I think it will be quite difficult for me... So there are 180 hrs of lectures on DVD's, so by 4 hrs daily it should be done after 65 days. And that would be only listening lectures... Do you use also Kaplan lectures or something else?

Hi Lee, How are you doing? I am sorry, I was not checking the topics lately, I think you are asking me ??? I am doing Kaplan too, just one chapter a day, and it is taking 4 hours a day atleast. I do peek in text books, where ever I stuck. I think it will take one month per subject, as I am doing it after 10years, so it should take more time right? I dont know if my speed is ok or not, any suggestions.... anyone??? Well, I am answering you, I dont know whether you were asking me or not, anyways, its always nice to share GL,

I am old grad and If the post had been earlier, I could have joined your groups. Now I have already appeared for Step I . Dont know what will happen. If you will not get bored, I will try to tell my story., I was out of touch of medicine, and step I is meant for fresh grads or 2nd year students. I got the Kaplan notes and DVDs. FA and Q bank. I had 2 1/2 months, because I managed to get full break for that much period. The problems I faced as old grad were - 1. I could not study efficiently as I was fresh and young. 2. I was out of touch of subject 3. USMLE exam is becoming intense and difficult day by day. Only knowing facts is never enough. What I found, For us (shall I take that privilege?), FA is not mch useful. Its a book, which is not first aid, but its 'last aid'; meant for revision, when you already know. You can use FA as a primer, get the topic from there, and read it elsewhere. Its dificult to read Kaplan notes either, at least for me, as they were points and facts. I was out of touch of medicine. I found good - Read Lipincot's Biochemistry and micro, Idealy pharmac too. They are exhaustive, however. We can read blueprints in micro and pharmac. Read HY cell biology. Read a good patho text book. Many concepts since we graduated are outdated or updated with a large detail. Then read anat. Histo embryo is much less important. Finally FA. My exam - It was much much tough. Many questions were 3 step questions. Many Q were large amino acid sequences ect, and asking about promoters enhancers. Genetics Biochem very tough Even pharmac, as they ent to much deeper level. Anant was not at all simple, and questions were twisted too much. Let us see. In smmery, I want to say, for Old IMGs like us, routine approach is not enough, as we are out of touch. We first need to get the subject and then fine tune it with Kaplan and FA etc. Best of Luck
