Don't do it......Masters...its good but the sooner you do your USMLE the better.

It gets harder and harder as time lengthens .B/4 you know it kids come into the picture and boom...it gets even more complex. The sooner after grad the better your chances.

Face USMLE as soon as u can.I've been there and have a lot of regret over my choice for grad school.

Oluwaseun ,u will definitely do great, dont worry.
I have always wondered, why people come back to usmle after masters.I am feeling from where i am,is it not right with masters you can get more time with family & kids ?ofcourse if finances are okay & with a husband who says or pretends to say it is enough with masters.
I feel being a doctor is lot of compromises & a husbands support is very much essential.

Well for me I can say even after masters I felt I was missing something...shortchanging myself.

It is so different if you are an MD MPH.It opens so many more doors.Plus some of us really truly feel the need to be with patients in a physicians role.it is very personal.

If you are ready to live with it and you are VERY sure.....go for mph ETC.I thought I could settle with MPH but soon started getting restless when I was working on a research program and all my bosses were RN's and the docs in the program everyone kept on saying...you can do better than this..go for it.I knew I wasn't satisfied

Its up to you check your heart and make the decision..Its a hard one either way esp for IMG's like me.no one can make that choice for you.Pray hard and settle but if you ever intend to do residency do not post pone.

Wish you God's help

Wish you God's best.

I totally agree with Oluw, please go for MLE ASAP, ie if that's what your heart's desire is (in the long run). The gap that Masters brings into your prep has disastrous consequences. Not impossible to overcome, but MIGHTY ROUGH!

I went into a Masters thinking that it will give me more time with family etc..... finally I felt I was running away from what I REALLY wanted to do and from where I really wanted to be: a DOC!

You cannot change things or turn back time, so just a friendly piece of advice..... unless you did not like being a doc, and want a career turn, go for the Masters. If not, get to the books and take the Steps. Even if it takes longer, you can somehow extract support from husband..... (ladies know all the right moves winkwink) and JUST DO IT! And he will respect you for it.

The longer you take to decide, the more time you lose. So pray hard, come to a decision.... a well thought out one, and STICK to it... no more turning back.

Good luck and I pray you get your direction and motivation sooooon!smiling face

Aciynta,

I feel we are in exactly the same situation and I agree with you 100%.

Its better to face your fears than avaoid them cos you end up coming back to face them later anyway!!!

In spite of all that we will still try our best and really depend on God for help.So chin up girl and go for it follow your heart whichever way you are led by God.

Try not to waste your time in a dry place.

This forum has really helped me to realise that We are not alone in this USMLE wilderness...many are on the same road and m,ost important God is with us

God bless you and I will be praying along too

Oluw

i'm totally with acintya and Oluw here - been there, done that - still not satisfied and have come back in a full circle to turn my long-dormant dreams into reality. inspiring, if u miss being a doc, forget about Masters. yes, if u are tired of being a doctor and want a change of careers, Masters would be a great alternative, like acintya said. i did an MPH and am working full-time right now - i work with MD's all the time and it makes me feel so incomplete when i realize i could be like them - i'm trying to study for MLE, but its soooooo difficult now with a job, so babe - learn from OUR experiences (life is too short to make all the mistakes yourself!!) and get started on your MLE journey ASAP - the more the gap, the more difficult it becomes. today, its only hubby, tomorrow there will be kids - its not going to get any easier, so don't waste any more time.
