pls explain the concept someone,thanks in advance is FFP given onl in active bleeding pt? is bleeding in case of liver disease resolves with FFP. how does FFP helps. can't figure out pls explain, thanks

There are three preparations that we have to understand 1. FFP Fresh Frozen Plasma 2. Cryoprecipitate 3. Cryosupernatant FFP is preferred with MULTIPLE factor deficiency (as in the liver dz), DIC and TTP. Mostly with active bleeding. It is just pooled plasma enriched in different factors. Cryprecipitate is preferred for single factor deficiency (Hemophiliac) and is reach in Factor VIII, vwf. Cryosupernatant is plasma left behind after cryoprecipitation so it is deficient in factor VIII and HMW vWF. Indication for use is in TTP during plasma exchange. (I dont think we need that much info for this exam, I had to read on it to post).

Have to add that FFP is the only thing working well to stop bleeding in those with liver disease, whereas vit K is useless - it will not be simply processed by the damaged liver to regenerate clotting factors...
