can anyone tell me if what is the approximate % of residencies offered on J1?
in other words,by how much am i increasing my chances of residency if am applying for J1 and H1?

is it possible to apply for J-1s as well and during the IV start bargaining for H-1B ? grin

has anybody actually heard of any surgery programs on H-1B?

Residents can ask, it doesn't mean that a program will do it. At the minimum, you would be wasting your $$ and the programs time.

I applyed for the J1 only, and after I signed the contract the PC asked me Which visa do you want?... I was shocked

In other program they mentioned during IV that if we are pursuing an H1 visa, the only requisite is to deliver the S3 score by the end of Jan...

As you might know by now, it depends on each program... so do as bbb said and ask directly.

I had checked J1 on the visa section on the CAF. During interviews, I was sure that I will apply for J1. It was only after I was offered te prematch and because of a few friends on this forum, that I gave step 3 after accepting the prematch. My PC had suggested I give step 3 and apply for H1B, but was okay with both J1 and H1b.
