Hello my online community,
I was initially planning to focus on FA with UW and KQbank after completing my 1st reading with other sources, but recently I have heard something called "Kaplan Med Essentials" which I was told that it's mini-version of combined all KLNS. So I decided to read them with the Qbanks and not touch FA. the thing is 499 scanned pages so i think I can manage but I don't know if it contains enough information b/c according to Kaplan online they said it's meant for Medical students who are now taking the course and International Graduates who want more practice and review. I'm confused please help. thanks.

I have not taken the test yet , so I am not in a position to guide you but what I have learnt from recent 99ers on the forum is that you should do BOTH medEssential AND FA. Good luck.

i would recommend to stick to First Aid, and only do physio portion from kap med essentials as Ancylostoma(99) advised in his posts

If you are a month away don't do it. If you are at least three months away do it. I am doing it. So far I have noticed that Bacterio and Viro portion is very less in KME. Rest is almost the same. Its an excellent book but it can help only if you have at least read KLN once or twice. Also, like unique said do supplement it with FA

hi i am afraid to put my opinion against may be someone but in our forum everyone has a right to put his opinion whatever right or people agree or not well here is my opinion i personally think kaplan medessentials is a very good book why here is my outlook in this book you can easily revise kaplan lecture notes how is it possible to revise whole lecture notes so medessential is the right choice according to me some topics like microbilogy is not fair game in kaplan medessentials while it covers most my combination is firstaid2006+kaplan medessentials+q bank +uw my exam is near also any opinion regarding this combination or any improvement in combination is highly appreciated thanks takecare and all the best

I'm actually doing part of MedEssentials now and this book works great... if you studied from the Kaplan books. It's like a high-yield of all the diagrams and important facts of the books. I STRONGLY suggest you go through the biochem and molecular biology sections of not just this book, but Kaplan's Biochem/Molecular Biology/Genetics book.

First Aid is extremely weak in molecular biology and genetics, and since the future of medicine is molecular (i.e., genetics tests, techniques, molecular analysis) you will do yourself a favor in studying this well. Those board people know that most schools are not teaching this as they should so expect to receive even basic pathology questions tilted toward the "molecular side".

I'll check out the Physio section to see if it is any good.

hi everyone well i am doing kaplan medessentials and it is very difficult for me to make comparision because no doubt first aid has its own importance no doubt like in every forum we discuss at last do first aid but the theme is to good marks only if we talk about kaplan medessentials no importance if anyone havenot done KLN .Because inacase of behavioural science each and every huigh yield present there and may same words like KLN first advantage you know and at glance you will get it is easy to say than done because it is not short book may a short cut also in case of pharma receptors are well discussed so how to cytokine receptors work cytoplasmic tyrosine so where it is present in first aid so at glance it is good to revise look at anatomy CNS CVS RESPIRATION GIT ENDO REPRO oh yes UPPER LIMB LOWERLIMB ALONG WITH physio and patho you can easily revise it is weak in micro no doubt but micro is present not in those pages only micro is present in each section of systemic review i think well if you have any comments kindly put here because it is very good thread before to take exam so never underestimate first aid and if it makes a combination with medessentials it is on my outlook better ohh yes regarding micro charts are prent for bacteriology it helps also may it makes positive suggestion to anyone GOD bless thanks and take care

doc123 I do not think u can choose FA only or KME if u ever browse them .

But as all already said , KME is like ur kap LN summary but in my take it has more in with well organize as system wise with big general sextion as subj b4 that .

FA is all facts , now aday as sytem wise .. as HY as it said , but I have not doing my test yet so ... , u should go to book store check FA ... ur taste type or not , then KME .
They r very 2 diferent style , am sure u will find one is better for u than other .
Then u stick with that one , but still u have time do both , but still u will favor one over another .

My own opinion , every one is doing FA so I will not miss it , but I personally like KME since is like mini books for all 7 subjects .
Also some pic or topic r better in KME , some r in FA .
Just like Patho golj & Barone I like both .

So start with any FA or KME or side by side with ur read , especially if u use kap LN mainly .. u will amaze with KME .

FA ... almost all will do it as may b due to publicity or shorter than KME .

KME ... as some said , some 99er use it , most of them use KME as solely but also use FA , so this 99er use both KME plus FA . But they said KME save them .

Also some 99er just stick to FA with review original kap LN till last minute with FA . In that case they can review kap 7 books each in only 2 days or 3 most , I am not sure I will able to do that .. so i will keep KME handy for that which has 450 pages , with new one is just 50 page more .. ?? mainly picture as extra .

Both r on sale now at amazon so buy on sale time , since is too pricy each of them .

For me I plan to do both & do the latest one KME or FA .

Thanks shewhope99.9998 for ur 99.999 % advice
Personally i liked KME but sometimes mind do looks at other places (FA)
Working fulltime i think i will stick to one -- KME

  #15

u r welcome , KME will give u summary of kap LN , so FT work & u like it will suite u , just do not miss some in FA & better pic or graph or written in FA .. since FA is common use that u do not want to miss the extra & better stuffs it has .

So stick to KME & FA just as needed page [ only few ] .
