A 22-year-old African-American female with sickle-cell disease comes to your office for a routine evaluation and advice on contraception. She is sexually active with one partner and states that, "we sometimes forget to use condoms during intercourse." You have known this patient for several years. She has been previously noncompliant with her treatment for several times. She had a minor stroke two years ago, which resolved without any significant residual neurological deficits. Which of the following options for contraception is the most preferred for this patient?

A) Combined oral contraceptive pills
B) Progesterone-only Mini-Pill
C) Intrauterine device
D) Depot medroxyprogesterone acetate
E) Continue to use barrier contraception

I think D, since she is noncompliant to medications (A, B) and barrier (E), and IUD increases the risk of STD and sometimes the menses blood loss (in a patient alredy anemic).
