Gancyclovir is phosphorylated to gancyclovir monophosphate by which viral kinase?

  #2

via phosphotransferase gets converted to triphosphate form which inhibits viral DNA polymerase. But they don't cause CHAIN TERMINATION ,which acyclovir can cause.

  #3

dont go so far, just in first step when its phosphorylated to monophosphate, it is done by a viral kinase, name that viral kinase

  #4

thymidine kinase is not involved with ganciclovir unlike acyclovir

  #5

I didnt say thymidine kinase, I just said a viral kinase, if u can name it please

  #6

is thymidine kinase in HVS and phosphotransferase in CMV

  #7

Found it guys smiling face

Ganciclovir inhibits viral DNA synthesis. Intracellular ganciclovir is phosphorylated to the monophosphate derivative by a virus-encoded viral TK during HSV and VZV infection, and by a viral protein kinase encoded by the UL97 gene during CMV infection.

so as said above by our friend, its via thymidine kinase for HSV and VZV infections and via Protein kinase( NOT THYMIDINE KINASE) for CMV.

Good points!
CMV can become resistant to gang. by on of two mechanisms

1)Reduced intracellular phosphorylation due to a point mutation or deletion encoded by the UL97 gene
2)Mutations in viral DNA polymerase leading to partial resistance
