Never heard about this as well... Yea, I think cef for treatment would be enough...

Why I'm asking is because I'm doing a quiz from Blueprints CC in Medicine and it suggests cef + doxy ?!?

OK, first of all, the Step Up to Medicine lists chlam as potential cousative factor for pharyngitis... If so, the strategy to treat gono-pharyngitis would be as that for gono-STD: if there is gono (confirmed by culture though), give an antibiotic to cover chlam... Otherwise, GBS is the most frequent factor, and the treatment starts with empiric antibiotic unless mononucleosis is suspected
