I would like to ask u for your help guys well besides of the operations what’s the difference between an endocrinologist and an endocrine surgeon??????? In my country I think there is no such difference but in the US??? Is the endocrine surgeon permitted to treat diseases that don’t need surgery like diabetes, etc???

no an endocrine surgeon here just operates day in and out and is involved with a different set of endocrine problems (pheaochromo, parathyroid adenoma) as compared to an endorinologist (dm, gh deficiency) vanakkam to amrika..

Thanks, and if for instance you study endocrinology and then you want to study for endocrine surgery? What are your possibilities to be accepted in general surgery??? Because in my country there is some kind of rivalry between IM physicians & GSurgeons so if you have an IM fellowship they would not let you in GS and vice versa. vanakkam to amrika.. ??????

Apurva or any other kind soul: what does vanakkam to amrika mean? cual es la traducciòn ? Spitmetal: the main difference is that surgeon can operate and endocrinologist can't (as you say). In addition, as apurva says, maybe the surgeon treats more certain endocrino problems that can be solved or treated with surgery. Regarding another question of you: " Thanks, and if for instance you study endocrinology and then you want to study for endocrine surgery? " I don't think this is a good approach, why? number of years. 1) To become an endocrinologist: IM (3years) + Endocrino (2 years) 2) then to become an endocrin surgeon: I'm not sure how many years, but maybe it's 5 years (general surgery) plus 1-2 of endocrino. But not so sure about this. So, 10-12 years studying as a resident. It's not very attractive to me. I suggest you to decide between one of them only. nos vemos luego spitmetal. buen trabajo!

Chemamr is right!!! Both are fellowships from IM or GS... it will take forever to do all of them. On the other hand, most surgeons are quite well trained in the clinical aspects of diseases, they are not "empiric doers", they can manage endocrinologic problems and operate... But to be a surgeos you REALLY have to like it... I don't. Buena suerte y que todo te salga bien!!!!

I still think the same thing my dear friend. What I'm trying to say is YOU CAN BE AN ENDOCRINE SURGEON if that's your dream, you got an excellent step 1 score, if you do well in your remainder steps, you WILL GET INTO a very nice surgery residency program, and then you can get into endocrine surgery relatively easy. You have plenty of time to build a very cool curriculum vitae/application and achieve your goal. So, if you'd love that and that's what you said, GO FOR IT. Don't waste your time in IM. Hope it helps.
