Does anyone know the mechanism of Menetrier's disease, why is it only a protein losing enteropathy. I can't seem to find an answer.

It's all in Kaplan. There's hyperplasia of the mucus cells which replaces parietal and chief cells. Parietal cells secrete acid and intrinsic factor. So, if parietal cells are replaced, that means no acid production (achlorhydria) and Vit. B12 deficiency (pernicious anemia). Chief cells secrete pepsinogen which is needed for protein digestion and absorption. So, if chief cells are replaced---->no protein digestion & absorption---->protein losing enteropathy. Men. disease has increased risk of gastric cancer.
