1st of all.., good luck with your step 1 result..., hope you will do well.

*now about step 2 I think that if in your country the medical school offers lot of interaction with patients during study years then you'll be able to start with cs but if not then it will be better to start with ck so you can get knowledge to make you pass cs.

*and about toefel you only need to take it to help you with communication in step 2 cs but it is not a must.

*the study materials you need to start with are:
Kaplan medical notes.
you may need blueprint series in IM and Psychiatry.
Kaplan Q book.
then you will need UW questions and Kaplan Q bank later on in revision
after your first reading .

*Now about months needed ...,you will need approximately about 6 months to get a high score.....now some doctors make also HIGH SCORE WITHIN ONLY 2 or 3 months , but I think that the optimal ideal time is 6 months

now good luck again with your step 1 scoresmiling facesmiling face

I would also recommend the Step Up to Medicine (http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/0781747872...) for more thorough reading
