A few secondaries I think are HY: -AML- What are the auer rods really? Follicular Lymphoma Chromosome 18 contains the bcl-2 protooncogene What is the normal function of this gene?

Auer Rods are fusion of myeloperoxidase +ve granulues in the myeloblast. Bcl2 is a gene found on chromosome 18, it inhibits apoptosis by blocking the bax gene, normally when the bax gene is active it binds to the cell wall and creates a hole, cyt c can then leak out of the cell, cyt c activates a n enzyme called Apaf 1 which in turn Activates caspases that will digest and kill the cells, hope this helps.

Auer Rods are spindle shaped inclusions which are made up of myeloperoxidase +ve granulues in the myeloblast and they are the pathagnomonic for AML of M3 type acc. to FAB classification... Bcl 2 gene is an antiapopttotic gene as it inhibitz BAX gene which normally when active form holes in the cells and release and activate toxic enyme killing the malignant cells.....
