a woman gives birth to a term infant with thyrotoxicosis. The woman had underwent surgery for her Grave's disease before pregnancy and since the she is taking levothyroxin 0.25 mg every day and her thyroid hormones are in normal range. It asks about the reason of thyrotoxicosis in neonate?

The answer is '' persistence of thyroid stimulating immunoglobulin''

I'm just surprised how come? If TSI is still in her blood why we gave her levothyroxin and why her hormones are normal.

Please!

nadia she underwent surgery for her graves d/s before pregnancy that means she has no thyroid glad. so she do not produce T3/T4 and needs exogenous replacement therapy. But the thyroid stimulating immuneglobulin which initially couse her graves d/s is still circulating in her blood but b/c she doesn't have thyroid gland it has no effect on her. It crosses the placental blood barrier and couse thyrotoxicosis in her newborn.

Did I make it clear or make it more confusingsmiling face?
