you are seeing a 28 yrs old woman for her first antenatal visit.you learn that she is total vegeterian.what is the nutrient most likely to be defiecent
1) protein
2) iron
3)folate
4) vit b 12
5) calcium

it could be between Vit B12 n Folate.. not sure which one.. but i think its more likely B12

Colleagues,
I don't believe you are serious when say that a vegetarian is deficient for folate (Vit B9)... Leafy vegetables are the main source for that folic acid, aren't they?
I think this female is deficient for either iron or B12, the later is the most likely...

folate would be of tons in veges so b12 exclusively in meats so for sure b12

Actually, that is a high yield fact the USMLE loves to ask! In Step 1 there are tons of questions examining that...
