a 14-year-old boy came to the ER, he got a wound on his arm, can you stitch his wound or you must get permission from his parent who is not present there? (it is not a life and death issue)

because it is not a matter of life and death, i believe we should wait until the parent arrives and then let the parent make a decision as the child is a minor...and yes it has to be a rational decision by the parent in interest of the child. if it had been a life threatening situation then the doctor can make a decision for the patient based on the rule that if the doctor himself was in that situation then what treatment would he choose...or what treatment would a rational man choose for himself in that situation which will be best for him in terms of prognosis... i hope i was clear
