A woman weraing high heals ,has fallen and twisted her ankle.
Which ligament was most likely stretched?

1 Deltoid lig
2 Medial lig
3 Plantar calcaneonavicular lig
4 Lateal lig
5 long plantar lig

Can someone please explain the answer

Answer is 4, Lateal ligament.

Deltoid ligaments will have an effect if foot was everted, though it's less likely to result major damage because the ligaments (4 of them) are very strong. If enough force is applied can result avulsion fracture. I dont think this s what they are fishing from you.

Plantar ligaments are generally very strong as well and have nothing to do with sprained angel.

Dunno what medial ligament is, not latin, layman term I'd say.

Lateral ligaments is the also called stellate ligaments, 5 of them forming a star. These ligaments are much weaker, especially anterior talofibular ligament, which is generally mechano receptoric, can only sustain 20 kg, which is of course not much and can be easily torn.

anteior inferior tibiofibular ligament + posterior inferior tibiofibular ligament, too, together with the 3 mentioned constitute stellate ligaments, forming a star. In you apply enough force, lateral malleolus can be fractured as well and affect these 2 ligaments.

This s pretty low yield though.
