Dear BBB, and others Please look at this, I matched this year in to a residency program. I am eligible for a J-1 visa and due to my recent engagement I am now considering filing for a green card instead of J-1 after doing the necessary paperwork. but the problem is that to get a work permit it takes a minimum of 6-8 weeks to 90 days. If i applied for a green card on the 10 th of may, considering the time for paperwork, i will probably get a work permit by the 10 of july, or even 15 of august by the latest., question is, would programs work with me, if i asked them to giveme an extension to begin residency, or if i paid all of my insurances for 1 month and started working without pay, and/or if i can do all the paperwork and processing for J-1 and get a visa interview date in canada, and do j-1 in the last minute. as a back up plan, due to the lack of step 3 i am unable to ask for an H-1 to relieve the time pressure. can anyone please tell me their opinion on this. Thank you very much.

You will need to talk with your program and your immigration attorney.

Dear BBB, Thanks a lot, I am getting all the paperwork ready. Im just gonna do whatever is comfortable for the program. However, i am really praying to get the green card through, to avoid being on Visas. Thanks again for being patient with all of us. and being there for us. Bud.
