In what way does carboxyhemoglobin differs from methemoglobin?

1. Carboxyhemoglobin cause left shift on ODC

2. Carboxyhemoglobin causes tissue hypoxia

3. Carboxyhemoglobin blocks cytochrome oxidase

4. Carboxyhemoglobin decreses O2 saturation

5. Carboxyhemoglobin decreses O2 content

Keepgoing, dear, were are you?
Would you please post the answer?

i think ans is 1.
carboxyhb will not block cytochrom oxidase, its CN.
both methHB and carboxyHB will decrease o2 saturation and carrying capacity.
carboxy HB though carrys less HB it is peculiar in that this molecule will increase the affinity of hb to bind with o2 in what ever sites are remaining to bind o2 with HB, so the o2 dissociation curve will shift to left.
thats what i deduced from kaplan.

  #11

typo, i mean carboxy hb carries less o2 in the forth line.

sorry folks,kept u waiting...

here is the answer

ANSWER IS -->C

Both methemoglobin and carboxyhemoglobinemia produce tissue hypoxia.Methemoglobin which is hemoglobin with iron in ferric (+3) state rather than Oxygen-binding ferrous (+2) state,is similar to carboxyhemoglobin except it does not block cytichrome oxidase.CO has 240 graeter affinity for hemoglobin than oxygen, which means it decreses oxygen saturation of hemoglobin ( i.e total binding number of sites occupied by oxygen ).Decresed O2 saturation decreses the toatl no. of oxygen carried by blood,or the oxygen content,in addition CO shifts ODC to the left so that littel oxygen taht hemoglobin is carrying is not released to the tissue.Methemoglobin also decreses O2 content by decresing O2 saturation,b/c O2 can only combine with heme in ferrous state,In addition methemoglobin causes left shift in ODC

Thanks nnl for additional notes on methemoglobin smiling face
