HI All . I have asked this question to AshB and I did got a reply but i also want others opinion.
I have started preparing for MLE this month and planning to take
1. Step 1 in July
2. Step 2CK on 1st September
3. Step 2 CS at october end.
NOw tell me is there any problem with this schedule?
Is ECFMG Certification necessary before applying for residencies and match.
What would be the difficultiesI would face with this Schedule.
I wanna take surgery guys there.
Other option I have, is to take steps slowly and step2CS and step 3 next year and apply for 2009 match.With step 3 in hand can I get other competetive programs like surgery and orthopaedics .Which option is better??
BUt what would i do in between so much time.??
Other thing which come up in my mind is that if at all it would take so much time then why not add one more year to this and do a indian MD/MS here? and afterwards go to US. I know lot of confusion but kindly help with this query.
Do I have to come back after I finish my residency and if at all I have to whats the point in doing it from US??????
What does AshB and other senior moderators have to suggest me?

hi, according to me you should aim for 2008 match, you have plenty of time on your hand, and hard work will surely help you get surgery or ortho( although its a bit difficult) if you are sure of moving to states, there's no point wasting time in India, go for it, give it your best shot and get over it as soon as possible. Why do you want your future to hang in uncertainity for 2-3 more years, if you have the option of cementing it right now.

Thanks Dr.Rr but i have some confusions. Some people say that you need to finish every step including step 2 CS maximum by september to get enough interview calls but with my plans i would be finishing step 2CS in october end.
Willthat hamper me in any way. If yes then how?

It depends. If you're in the US and don't have to apply for H1 anymore, you can just be ECFMG certified by the time the application period starts. Otherwise, you'll have to take step 3, or just settle for a J1, which is a big no-no.
One factor also is gonna be your exam prep. Your review must be really intensive in the short amount of time you're planning to do it.

Thanks henskenneth, but the application process starts in december and i am taking step 2CS in october end.
The result of CS will come in December end and for ECFMG certification i will have to wait longer.
Is that recommeneded??
And also I never never and never would want to copromise for a J1 visa. I dont bother waiting for one more year if H1 visa demands so. what I am suppose to do and in what way I should change my plans to get H1??
Do all the people who gets residency without taking step 3 get J1 Visa ?? and if yes how do they manage to get the waiver for 2 year rule???

Yeah. Most hospitals require that you have finished all the steps before being sponsored for an H1 visa. And no, application for the match starts in September, not December. If you apply by December, you most probably will have a hard time waiting for interview invitations. You can still do it though. You can still do it though, rush the steps and take step 3 before the match results in March. Good luck.

Thanks hanskenneth... Kindly let me know then what i am suppose to do now?? rush my steps or take it slowly keeping in mind 2008 match ( though i might find a hard time for the interviews as u said) or take them slowly and wait for 2009 match. By the mid 2008 I will clear my step 3. what do u say??
And if you think that I should rush my steps HOw and when according to You shuld i plan my steps.

well and hi everyone highly important discussion i am also considering to get 2008 match and my step 1 has delayed due to CIF problem my step 1 will be in last week of june GODWILLING all of us will get good marks and step 2 ck october end and to tAKE CS I DONT KNOW WHAT HAPPEN but first target step 1 and 2 at this moment i m not cinsidering step 3 anymore MAYBE Asb was busy that why he didnot reply and he is helping people with good guidance God bless AshB TAKECARE ALLAHHAFIZ
