A 45 year old male patient is found to have a diffuse tumor in his neck .Surgical intervention requires bilateral removal of the patients carotid bodies . Following complete recovry ,the patient and a friend decide to ride a car to the summit of pikes peak(elev,11410 ft).On the summit,alveolar CO2 in the friend is reduced from 40 to 20 mm Hg.Which of the following describes best the alv vent of the patient

a.......Alv vent is 4 timmes greater than normal

b.......Alv vent is 2timmes greater than normal

c.......Alv vent is similar to that of normal

d......Alv vent is 4 timmes less than normal

e Alv vent is 4 timmes less than normal

y wud it change the PAO2 in the Dude without the carotid bodies y wud it change the guys my reasoning is that the initial response to high altitudes is hyperventilation which a direct reaction to the Dec in PaO2 (arterial PO2) this response is mediated by Carotid bodies so y wud his response be increased. there will be no efffect. the effect of Acclimization will occur but wont be very potent
