hello,
ur scores are pretty good....I know someone who had scores 76 & 79..needed visa as well & did reaesrch in patho..he got only 1 call from patho from the hospital where he did research & got the residency there so u can do it too!!!...may i ask if u got the interview call this year from the hosp where u working at? & how did it go?...if u were not offered an interview then it might be possible that it's a Uni hospital that's not too friendly to IMG so it all depends on where u apply.
GOOD LUCK...U can do it!!!

Hi
Your scores are good. However Path seems to be getting more competetive. What will definitely work for you is a clinical rotation in a Path Department. All the research and publications will help, but some kind of clinical experience (a month or two) will boost your resume.
Good luck.

I am an old IMG (with a Gc) who finally discovered that the most exciting field to work in is a pathology While doing clinical and basic research (post doc res fellowship) and obtaining MPH - was lucky to publish several papers with first authorship. I do have supportive mentors who are willing to give me their LORs...I am done with usmle step 2.
Really do not want to loose another year...Will I have good chances of getting into 2008 pathology residency if I am taking step 1 (and hopefully will pass it) only in August 2007? I guess, the question is: If I get ECFMG certified in September and submit the application in late Sep early Oct are my chances of getting into residency (path 2008) slim?
According to few path residency program coordinators, the residency applications are reviewed every day until their deadlines (either end of November of December) - but at the same time - according to many resources, the interviews take place mainly in Oct-November and the spaces get filled very quickly
So later one applies (even meeting a deadline) - lesser chance of getting in? Any comments/suggestions would be greatly appreciated...

It is true the earlier to apply, the better. Path application is processed kind of later than IM and FM. So i think early October is still fine if you have everything ready at that time.
