Hi, guys I have one big problem and need your help: The US consul in Georgia (former Soviet Union) refuses to give permission to enter the US in order to take USMLE Step 2 CS; actually, this policy took place 7 months ago - as far as I know, after September 2006 no Georgian IMG, who wanted to take the USMLE Step 2 CS, has entered the US; the reason for denial was the same for everyone - the US consul wasn't sure that these people aren't going to stay in the US as illegal immigrants. Visa letters, visa assistance letters and even direct calls from the ECFMG were unable to change this policy. I have scheduled my USMLE Step 2 CS on May 4, 2007 (my eligibility period ends on May 5, 2007) - what can I do? please, help!

call ECFMG and ask for a refound... apply again for another year... try again to get a visa... do show some stronger bounds to your home contry, more money in bank, happy job in georgia, family connections... if you think that will not work, maybe move to another country that allows you to get easy permanent residence, get that, go to their US embassy and bypass your country's. Check what other countries's US embassies requirements are for foreing citizens appointments, most of them ask for temporary residence or permant residence, ask you to fill some more forms about your home country and the embassy country, but you should be able to shedulle somewhere again an interview... in a couple of months Good luck!

thanks, guys I'm going to have my first interview with US consul on April 12, but I'm almost sure she will refuse me; after this I'll call ECFMG and ask for a refund. I just want to know, whether there are other countries where US consuls have the same stupid policy?

Sorry to hear this p53 I had a similar problem. Regarding the refund of money, see my other posts. The fax number you need is 215-3869196. You need to write a letter explaining your situation, letter from embassy (one they give at the end of interview) saying the reason (additional processing or refusal). The letter needs to address Roman Mizak. The other bit is that you have cancel your existing appointment to claim refund. They take 4-6 weeks of processing to refund money back into your ecfmg account. From where you can re-apply.

Well, it is not a stupid policy of a single given embassy but rather a citation of a paragraph 214B of the immigration act. Yes, you need to prove that you won't abandon your home country, which is hardly possible but possible... Try to be convincing... Do you have family/kids/business in Georgia? Applying for visa in another country (per advice in the above post) won't be successful. They now have a strict regulation: apply for entry visa in the country of your primary residency... This would be even more difficult if they stamped you passport with 214b even once... I think you need to try again and again in Tbilisi, where they know details of you case... Good luck, bratan…

It'll be alright just stay calm and give the impression on ur interview that u want to go out only to study and of course why would u stay there when u have everything so perfectly down in Georgia.....little attitude that, I'm coming from good but decided to take on more for here might help on that day and deep inside keep saying.........God I promise to be a good and unselfish doctor and help others!
 God Bless!

I think showing them a very strong tie to your home country is the key. Try and keep your bank account, house, credit card, land, family tie, in georgia and convince them with the reason why you want take this particular american test if you are to come back to georgia. It really is annoying nowadays with all those "tightened security" business, and I know how uneasy it feels, but I know you've been an outstanding student, and nothing like this should stop you from becoming a doctor. Maybe you can also look for some foundation or scholarship that may support your effort. Or bypass US at this moment overall till your time comes - I have a friend in a similar situation and he eventually decided to go to UK instead. You may be able to get qualified in UK and then aim at US at some better time later. If nothing works, certainly get the refund as the others say and wait for your time. While waiting for your time, try to establish some bonds at home. I wish you good luck - I really do.

p53... two things you can do if u r visa is rejected again: 1. Give GRE and get an admission to an university. Study for an year in say genetics/MPH and then switch. 2. Do a one-year Nursing course in Russia and get agreen card directly... work for two years as a nurse and then you can do residency.Contact MD-Nurse USA Pathway Programs"
