u shud have ur ck result by mid sept latest as thats when usually all applis are screend. ecfmg certi at time of sept 1 is best.

of course u can take it after that but each day u delay ur losing out on a potential interview. u have to balance the following : score vs date. in a lot of instances a earlier score is better than a higher score provided u hit whatever milestone. for example in psych i feel 80 is a good milestone. also make sure u turn in ur eras on time. u can add ur score to it later. this i feel is true in many instances. the previous year i got 5 psych interviews with one score. i didnt match. i took my step 2 in jan 17 and did not match. this of course is too late. i feel u could do ok october but then after that ur number of interviews will drop. of course the most important thing is too pass. make sure u take the nbme and guage ur strategy accordingly. dont worry too much about getting 99. a 90 in sept is better than a 99 in dec. plus it would save u the effort. also remember by november u need the time to go to interviews. my first iv was in mid oct and my last one was in early feb. but i had 44 interviews to go to.

i feel in some ways the absulute last date u can take ur exam by is dec 31 as usmle is close the 1st 2 weeks of jan. however ur chances r low of matching and u will have less interviews. however this is justified if u r on the borderlline of passingb.

Thank you. If I take Step2 in the middle of August, I should get the score in the beginning of of September. So I guess it will be OK. I just finished the first reading of Kaplan notes. Then I will read them again and do Kaplan Q bank and USMLE World QBank. I hesitate to take NBME because it may discourage me if I get bad score. By the way I got 98 in Step 1. My target for step 2 is around 90.
