I thought this might be of interest to people who are applying for residency. i generated the list from talking to the director of internal medicine. 1. Scores at least 90, double 99 would be great, better with step 3 score 2. LORs most important 3. The reputation of school is very important 4. Class rank, better to be top 1% 5. Research paper, more important than research itself. american journals priority 6. Citizenship important In summary top 3 criteria to be potential candidates in order: 1. LORs 2. Scores 3. Research paper

that is a bit extreme...those conditions are so hard to come by...work hard and impress at the interviews - but not too much impressing, you wanna save some pride!!! good luck y'all...

i agree with trans. im sure the pd is of a university program. bcoz these are the exact (unsaid) criteria i have come across at multiple big name places.. and dont get mistaken. all pds know about the best schools of each country. AIIMS/aga khan/aub is as well known amongst most uni program directors as a big name US program.

it is extreme but i guess those r the criteria the top university-programs look for. sorry, cannot disclose the information of hospital here but it is one of top university-programs. one thing to add for research papers, you have to be the first author only. american journals top the journal published unless globally well known in your contry top the research experience. i never thought the name of your school has some influences and apurva is right, most pds know what the best medical schools of each country stand and they share the information among themselves i suppose. it's so much harder than i expect to be.. good luck to us all
