not a must, indeed I find it harder than step 1 Q. standard, I'll never use it excet in 1st read(as the MCQs R put in the order of chapters as Kaplan notes) also it's not the best exam oriented book..

pretest isnt too good a book if u want to know the type of questions that u will get in the exam.but man!is it conceptual!go through it atleast once.i found that very helpful.
