Annual H-1B visa cap met--already
The rush by companies, particularly of the high-tech persuasion, to apply for h1b visas for next year has officially come to an end--only one day after it began.

U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services said Tuesday that it had received 150,000 applications as of Monday afternoon for the controversial work permits, which allow foreigners with a bachelor's degree in their area of specialty to be employed in the United States for up to six years.

the H1B cap is for-profit organisations. Most teaching hospitals r non-profit organisations. there is no cap for H1B sponsored by non-profit org., so this shouldn't affect IMGs getting H1B for residency. Note that there r a few teaching hospitals whose H1 does come under the cap(i.e. for profit)...in such a circumstance, not possible to get a H1B visa till next yr.(but almost all of these hospitals have stopped sponsoring H1B anyways). one way to identify a "for profit" vs "not-for-profit is to look at the web address..any .com is a for profit organisation, any .org, .edu etc r not-for-profit.
hope that helps.

Your new program coordinator can tell you if your program is "cap" or "non-cap"
