Can any body tell me if I have written a paper and want to get it published, whom should I contact, which are good journals and which is the one with what requirements? if some body can paste any link? I think those with publications as first author can definitely help me out in this regard?

Ask your supervisor/faculty advisor, colleagues, librarian about journal submissions. ISI web of knowledge helps you with list of journals by subject category. You can then further rank journals by impact factor, total citations, etc. For example, if you are doing research on liver regeneration, choose Hepatology as subject category and you will get a list of journals which you can sort by a number of categories.

If only it were that simple!! Anyway, what gas16 says is true but the point is submitting a paer to a journal and getting it accepted and published are worlds apart- a bit like applying to programs and getting in- Your question is a bit more like which are the best colleges to do a residency in- the problem being depending on what speciality, what your scores are, whats your visa status, etc, etc- the best colleges to do a residency are not necessarily the ones that you will or should apply to unless you have the time and money to waste. For eg the highest ranked journals (by impact factor) and usually considered the best- such as New England Journal of Medicine, Nature, Cell , Science, Nature Medicine are not the kind of journals that a medical student can submit a paper by himself and hope to get it published all on his own. In any case if you find a journal that you would be interested in submitting a paper to, you can always write to the editor of the journal something called a pre-submission enquiry asking if your paper would 'fit into their scope' (a polite way of asking will you publish it)

Look for journals match your research paper. A better way, find a journal with the special issue in your research area. This will significantly make the process faster. But still, it's a time consuming procedure until your paper get reviewed, revised, reviewed, revised, and either rejected or accepted at the end. And once it's accepted it takes a while until it appears in the journal.

Journals are gauged by their impact factor. Publications in journal above impact factor 2 takes significant effort. (e.g Nature immunity has impact factor of 25). I have few publications. They are lots of work. Peer review process is lengthy and take up to 4 months between submission to publication. That is provided your work is up to the standard and interest of given journal. You have to find journal that is focused on area of paper. You can write an abstract and send it to the editors and gauge their interest in your work. If you provide more specifics..I can help better... Several types of publications appear in journal. Research article (require significant scientific data) Review Paper (mostly invited authors with expertise in the area) Letters (short cutting edge research article) Letter to an editor (critical commentary on previously published article in that journal) In summary, publications are not easy. Any one evaluating your resume can look at the journal and gauge at its relavance and importance. good luck

just as and addendum. if you are not in a hurry to publish, then aim for the highest. go to the website fo the journal and look at their areas of interest. go to guidelines for autors and follow them strictly. then send the article in. the worst that will happen is a rejection. dont worry. try the next journal on your list and make correctiosn based on what the previous journal recommended. wait again..... if another rejection, try another journal...and it goes on and on. each time, your article improves cos you are getting feedback about why it sucks. eventually, one journal will accept your article. if you are in a hurry, then go for a journal with a lower impact factor. they are not as picky and you are more likely to get publised. anyone may publish an article in any journal. even in hte lancet. if the article is good. all the best.
