Hey
I am no Computer Geek, but i am very impressed with USMLE WORLD qbank's anti-piracy measures (i.e. no programs would work during explanation sessions (i.e. notepad, word, paint, print-screen, or copy-and-paste). NO wonder no one has any offline copies.
But here's the problem. I assume that once the subscription expires, all the questions and explanations + annotations will be gone (not even my intense hightlighting), so i've been writing things down by hand....
This has been very time consuming... and frustrating since there's a lot of material i need to write down. (and i have to go through a number of tests/questions whenever i am looking for information from the previous explanations. i.e. no "FIND" function). Such a waste of time.
Does anyone know a function on the usmle world program/ or anything that would work during the explanation session so that maybe i can TYPE something instead of writing everything down, and use it LATER after the subscription expires?
i know the answer is most likely a NO, but my hands are very tired....
(a cry for help)

Anti-Piracy is bad until ur stuff is not being stolen n then it becomes ur best friend as someone steals it so if u have to be very sure abt wht u say abt Anti-Piracy

I think that you are learning more by writing and then reviewing it, so you will be more prepare

i don't exactly understand your circumstances, but presuming you use a desktop computer for the test, why not keep an extra laptop with you and type on it.
in other words, another computer will do, right?

i think the kind of measures that the USMLE World has taken towards anti-piracy are a little over-zealous and too meticulous for my taste.it is alright to protect your material online but the USMLE World guys are protecting it even from those who pay for it.when your subscription expires,u lose all the material in a sec and that really doesnt help anyone.as for you writing things down,i think that is kinda irksome.try making mental notes more.everything is there in kaplan.u shouldnt be needing to make so many notes.try following concepts.that way u will retain more and will learn to correlate,hence less need to write everything down.

I think it is good. They have a good set of questions, yet do not charge exhorbitently. Also, as u know u cant copy it, there is increased attentiveness and hence better learning.

I think the fact that there are no illegal copies of UW's q-bank are what helps them keep their prices lower than the others. Once people start pirating UW, if possible, the prices will go up, and will soon meet the cost of Kaplan and others.

1. Enabling some type of Notepad would certainly help us learning (they could still disable the copy-and-paste function and maybe enforce maximam typed-word limit per online session to protect their material). i am sure no one in their right mind would want to type all 1900 questions with explanations during their subscriptions, especially when we are all under such time constrain
2. i like GOGETA and JAISIYARAM's 'positive' way of looking at it (learning more by writing and then reviewing it ; increased attentiveness knowing it can't be copied), but most identify with MULTIFACTORIAL that their anti-piracy approach is a little over-zealous.
Every time i want to turn on/off the media player, i have to close the REVIEW page, and start the page all over again (this thing is slow, i am sure i would mind so much if it's faster). If i need to look up a word or find more info on certain medical conditions (i.e. use a medical dictionary or Internet explorer, or check something in pdf), i have to repeat this unpleasant process over and over again.
3. BIOGUY is a FREAKING GENIUS,  Totally solved my problem, GENIUS!
4. HOTOBHAGA - i am sure the digital camera will work, but it's going take a lot, a lot, a lot of time, plus i can't edit it, make point forms, or merge or find infomation (1900 pic of questions + 1900 pic of explanations). But it's not a bad idea to obtain a copy of important X-ray, CT imaging, or graphics for later review.
5. OBGYNE2B, DNCOSTA, JAISIYARAM - i have no probelm with them protecting their business and i firmly believe in supporting good products and companies, and don't mind at all paying (as long as it's reasonable) so that they can continue their good work for the future doc-to-be. I guess i just can't help complaining a bit with all this pressure, plus typing in point form is my main mode of studying
anyway, YOU GUYS ARE AWESOME!!

There IS a UWQbank floating on the net somewhere. I am sure I have seen it.. I am not sure if it was step 1 or Step 2.
