When a program says that they do not sponsor visas, does it mean that they don't even sponsor J1 even though if ECFMG is supposed to sponsor you for J1? I am confused, since for last match a couple of programs rejected me because they say they do not sponsor visas. Why won't they accept you if ECFMG does the J1 paperwork for you and not the hospital? Does it mean that hospitals must issue some kind of document for you before ECFMG can do the visa paperwork? Thanks

If they don't sponsor visa it means even through ECFMG they are not going to sponsor your visa and if you are on other type of visa that needed to sponosred by them, they won't accept you.

When a program says we wont and dont sponsor any visas i,it is a euphemistic way of saying they will kick you if you apply and you need visa ..so you chuck it from your list beforehand .I think we ought to post a list of programs which dont sponsor visas here before the next match starts .To make sure nobody looses money unneccessarily ..I lost some dollars this year even after researching .Nobody else should this year ..

Thanks I think it's a polite way of saying that they don't want the best doctors that they can possibly get. They want them to come to my program....

when programs say that is a "polite" way to say: we don't like IMGs. So, no matter if you will be on J1 or H1, that hospital is probably not IMG friendly and won't sponsor any visa. So, be careful with those programs.
