It is not impossible to get in without observership. It depends on the program; every programs has its own requirements.

For many years, every year , many people with no US experience get matched into many programs ..It helps tremendously but not mandatory

hey i heard there is something as one year course in residency which one can get easily and in which u r paid too, is it not better than observership.....
i mean if i do this one year couse in 2008 and apply for 3 yrs resi in 2009....
will i be considered above students who are with 3 months of observership....
and plz tell me how shud i manage my studies and exam dates so i can apply for this 1 yr course for 2008...

Due to so many above 95 scorers, programs really like people who have USA LORs. One PD told me that FMGs with no experience give us real hard time in first few months, so we are giving priority to those who have USA work experience.

IMHO observership helps very minorly to being totally none beneficial to your match, PDs wants FMGs with hand-on exp on the US soil, so pre-lim and/or away rotation is the way to go.

it is in some programs, atleast in psych. i feel an externship is like adding 2-5 points on ur usmle. if time is an issue i feel 80 with an externship is perhaps better than 82 with none. and to get those 2 extra points could take 2-3 weeks. why not do an externship instead.

also there is no excuse not to find or do one except financial. contact every program and ye shall find one. go to the VAs as well. network and ask around. they r there.

thanks all, but what shud i do?? i mean shud i post myself for 2008?????
how i then??
i will tell u about my plan, aug 1st week step 1, i fly to the US....give my step 2 CS, cos result will take time.....and will cont prep for step 2 CK, mean while i will apply for this 1 yr course in month of october with only step 1 score, will give my step 2 ck in early Dec, result will be out in early jan and will appear for interview (if i get one) in mid and end of jan............
i know this is very risky.......but need help of a experience fellow, i mean getting 1yr course is not very difficult...but still not confident.
someone please guide me thru this...
has anyone done this before????
what was the outcome......
i have heard getting 1 yr couse of med is very difficult........how about taking surgery then....this is what someone suggested me....hey but if they ask me why u asking for 3 yr med residency in 2009 then...............really confused.
keep helping me guys
