A man who has alkaptonuria marries a woman who has herediatary sucrose intolarence.Both are autosomal recessive diseases and both map to 3q with a distance of 10cM separating the two loci.What is the chance they will have a child with alkaptonuria and sucrose intolerance ?

2. 12.5%
3. 25%
4. 50%
5 100%

isn't it 0%,as the father has alkaptonuria and mother has sucrose intolerance. The child will be heterozygous for both of the diseases and phenotypically normal

I understand the concept... but you say both alterations are in chromosome 3q 10cM apart?

What is the 10 cM?

CentiMorgans just a unit used for mesuring the distance between the genes/alleles.

Why is 10cM and locus position given? we are not doing gene testing here. Does MLE often give irrelavent info?
