I was doing UW and came across a meningitis question, basically the ADULT pt had meningiococcal meningitis and wanted to didn't want to be admitted in the hospital. You were supposed to disregard his wishes and treat the patient. I was wondering what other diseases would force treatment on the patient? I'm talking about adult patients who are competent. With TB you isolate the pt but don't force him to take the medications.

Any time there is danger to self or other's (such as psychosis with violent tendecies or syphylis) with strong evidence of irrational behavior based not on religion. therefore... suicidal/homicidal ideation, communicable venerial diseases, bacterial meningitis (with evidence of delirium) etc.
