scores are very very important in getting a residency in usa. if you need a hot speciality like radiology or surgery, then you should have the BEST SCORES , you should be right there with 99/ 250 like that. however a low score does not necessarily mean the end of the world for anyone. your academic credentials, previous research, work experience, good LORs, and many other factors will help you in getting a NOT SO HOT speciality like psych, family medicine etc.hope this helps

no this is not percentage. Ecfmg gives your scores on two scales, one is two digit scale on which passing is 75 and three digit score on which passing is 182 (for step2, i am not sure about step1) and to get a passing 75 u need to get 55-65% of questions right on the exam

well what do u mean by speciality? residency? cuz there are various types of residency. e.g., u can get a family med residency with even a lowly score of 78 or something. if u r in low 80s, u can get internal med in certain states but if u want some top notch residency may be u need higher scores. Its better to talk to someone who is doing residency in the field of your interest, ask them about their scores. good luck

No, nothing is guaranteed! The top scores will help you get an interview and place better, but won't insure your obtaining a residency position. Good luck
