am I getting it wrong or does thrombin ( factor 2a) activate both factors 5 and 8 (COAGULANT HERE) and also protein C (ANTICOAGULANT HERE ) ...that means it has both coagulant or anticoagulant effects ?!??!

Blood coagulation is triggered by the exposure of tissue factor at injury sites, leading to the generation of minute quantities of thrombin. Thrombin, in turn, activates platelets, factors XI, VIII, and V, and triggers the sequential activation of factors XI, IX, X, and prothrombin on the activated platelet surface, leading to the generation of sufficient thrombin to convert fibrinogen to fibrin and affect hemostasis. Platelets localize coagulation to the hemostatic thrombus and protect coagulation enzymes from inhibition by both plasma and platelet inhibitors thus preventing disseminated intravascular coagulation (DIC).

The formation of a fibrin clot depends on thrombin generation, the key regulator in the hemostatic process. Protein C inhibits thrombin generation through its proteolysis of key cofactors required in procoagulant enzymatic complexes. Protein C also plays profibrinolytic, anti-inflammatory, and anti-ischemic roles. Additionally, in patients with severe sepsis, a decrease in the generation of APC contributes to the dysregulation of physiological clot formation.
