glucagone has positive inotropic action

While true, this does not explain why glucagon would be used in this situation of other positive inotropes such as epinephrine. The big key here is cAMP. I wrote a nice post on my blog about this and it ties in the concept of physiologic antagonism.

glucagon stimulate adenylyl cyclase and increases intracellular cAMP in many different tissues. In the heart this result in increase of heart rate and force of contraction:
it stimulate the depressed heart without needing the beta receptor that are blocked by the beta-blocker overdose!!!
