i belive this is very wrong to talk about which one's better.

firstly, why even think what's better, it's not something you have control over. it is not like you're sitting on the exam thinking that you might be "low-passing" and suddenly decide to fail because "it's better"

secondly, if you're yet to take the exam you should really want to ace it, not just barely pass. try and do your very best till the last question. you can't know everything and you don't know which ones don't count.

and if you passed it, there's no much one can do, move on, get better prepared for the next one.

lots of people with not so high scores get residency positions, score is just one of the criteria, though important one. it all depends on lots of things, including lors, experience, chosen speciality, location, etc.

so, as our colleague said, have faith and think positively. couldn't agree more on that one!

the best of luck to all!

I have a friend, that at this moment he is working in not a very good job, he is specialist in his country, he can not take the test at this moment not even enroll in the test because of his economical position , I asked him which is better fail or pass with 75%, he said IF I GET 75 % I WILL BE CELEBRATING, this is a hard test, if you pass, you can get, well any speciality that you want, except Surgery, Neuro, Cardio, Pneumo, but you atill have other once very good too,

As my wife said , don't worry for that, just PAS THE TEST man.
wish thwe best for every one.

Hi.
Listen, I resident who is finishing his surgery Residency on June from the Philipines told me that on your RESUME everything counts for the interview, what ever you did in your Medical career it is very important.
Personally, after I finished my Medical school, I worked like a House Officer in a Hospital in my country for 10 months, people who had reviwed my resume said that is fine.
Try to work on the field as a Medical Assistant, phebotomist, or do research, work as volunteer for few hours in a hospital so you can get to know people and know how things move around medicine in this country.
Good luck!

dear bbb
do you mean that if i will have 75 (which is passed) i still can retake the exam agin ?

No! That's incorrect. If you get 74 you can retake the exam. If you have 75, you have passed. That's your score

Hi,

I was in this confusion a while ago but recently I met a friend, she was a 2004 graduate with scores in both steps in 70's (on 1st attempt),pass cs(1st attempt) & research work of 3-4 months & a citizen...& she matched this year & will be starting her residency in IM in jul,06....this is for all those who have been saying that having low scores mean no interview call/no residency & a hard time ....Always Rememeber...

EVERYTHING IS POSSIBLE...EVEN THE WORD IMPOSSIBLE SAYS I M POSSIBLEsmiling face
