less than 20000 or 30000 platelet count?

also what does severe symptoms mean? If a child comes with epistaxis we just watch him/her?

CS is started once you ruled out other reasons for Thrombocytopenia and looked at the smear to assure that no other cell line is involved.

you do not transfuse Platelets unless there is a sign of bleeding such as epistaxis, GI etc.

consider IVIG if pt does not respond with CS in 5-10 days.

30,000 platelet count is the indication for platelet transfusion in ITP patients.

IVIG should be considered before giving steroids. Also, do a BM biospy to rule out BM malignancy before starting on steroids.

I think IV IG is given for countsd below 10,000??

We could startw ith steroids for all cases with ITP--Any inputs?
