hi, i have begun with biochemistry , kaplan notes and am finding a bit difficult to palpate everything... is there anyone in the same boat and would like to do biochem with me....thanks.

  #2

m finding it difficult too...to clear concepts i go for animations interactive sites....it consumes time but helps really

  #3

which chap re you doin in biochem.....m stuck on gene regulation.....for now.....how long do you think it should take to complete one reading of kaplan notes?

  #4

i am going to finish the chapter of translation today.i dont understand lot of concepts.where do u get the animations from. what else do u refer. i think its better to understand the concepts in the first reading rather than think how much time r we spending on it ...subsequent reading will be faster. what do u think....

  #5

google.........its very time consuming........but gives a good impact......are u studyng notes alone or along with dvds..........or texts.........?

  #6

may be we can discuss a topic....and see how it works for us.......i m kinda scared to open texts again.............sometimes i hang on with a topic so much that it becomes boring and i skip that for the moment ...its not good ...but i dont know what to do?how many hours do you study...i ? for translation u can refer...www.biostudio,com...its pretty good...

  #7

Guys, I would like to join u for the review. I am doing Kaplan

  #8

hey,,indidoc....where are you?

epica.....what chap are u doin? m kinda finished with genetics part.

Hi meddoc, indi_doc and epica,

I have finished the first read of Kaplan Mol Bio Ch 1-3, still plodding on. But this time I watched the Kaplan DVDs so it went faster, but I need to do my own grasping and learning.

I found this website to be very useful:
http://www.sumanasinc.com/webcontent/anisamples/m...

It has animations from the text book by Lodish for Cell and Molecular Bio--excellent, provides explanations, and the book is available for online viewing at this site:

http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/books/bv.fcgi?rid=mcb...

It might be detailed, but you can pick only that which helps you understand the material for step 1.

Good luck with Biochem. Do post any questions/discussion to help crack it!smiling face

i do have certain quieries.....will post later.....

i have reached medical genetics. tomorrow ia m going to start it. metabolism is not difficult to understand, but lot to memorise. molecular biology took lot of time.

Hi meddoc and indi_doc,

I just finished watching DVDs of Mol bio and Medical genetics as they were more related to each other. Have to do my own reading of Ch 5-7 of Mol Bio and Med Gen (did only first 4 Ch of Mol Bio). On Monday I will watch the metabolisms. Thanks for the heads up ind-doc. Med Gen is good, but a little dry, but I just did one whole 3.5 hr lecture on DVD in one sitting. I am going through the first read quicker than I would like to, but it seems it is better to get more number of reads than one deep one.

Meddoc, yes it is good to try everyday a little at a time, and get into the groove. I am doing that right now. If you read my journal, you will find advice by multifactorial that is really helpful.

Good luck to both of you, keep us posted, so it keeps the mood up!!

genetics is not that bad but i am going too slowly. i have to speed up a little bit. you are right acintya theres good overlapping between molecular biology and genetics and one needs to know those basic concepts of molecular biology to do genetics.

  #14

Thanks Indi_doc for the update.
meddoc, where are you? Hope everything is fine with you. Did you start with Kaplan yet?

I am just done with watching DVDs for metabolisms, till Lipid. Need to start with Lipid and finish up remaining metabolisms.... this is a very quick read along with the videos. I will know how tough it is, only when I start studying and trying to retain it in my head on my own.

Good Luck....plod on!!

indi_doc ...there u r...doin good...don worry aboit the speed....coz we have many speed breakers now.grin........just be steady and in no time u wil realise that ur catching things faster than before....first reading is always time consuming.

  #16

m still doin metabs....did over and over but failed in ques.....specially the enzymes and the sec messengers....shaking head......something somewhere is lacking......shocked....mmmmmmmm might be concentration.

Hello biochem group!

I have done a quick read of Biochem along with DVDs. But I am at the 50% level... can't answer MLE style questions, but I am acquiring knowledge first to build a strong base. I am taking the weekend off, but I will start studying Physio on Monday (hopefully! smiling face )

How are you both doing? Meddoc I sent you a pm check it out. Don't worry about not being able to answer Qs, first know the material, and then we shall learn to tackle the Qs.

Good luck, and will catch you guys in my journal thread.
