I m anew one nd wanna appear in the same period wen u do as i m in med sckool 4th yr nd there r a very few ppl who during this period go for the exam so i really need a serious study partner have just done bi n fara in 1 read n doin beh so any one interested in joining pls reply so we can start as soon as possible without wasting time. waiting for reply.

Great to see this group quite motivated. Since some are doing different subjects, and for some it is the second read, I would say deciding what each will complete for that week and making sure the group accomplishes what they decided to do that week will work the best.
I was supposed to finish Beh Sc and stare Biochem but my first read is going slow. At least hope to finish it by Apr 6 and start Biochem on Apr 7. So in a week, I will join indi_doc and meddoc2000 with Biochem.
My study plan was: 3 months finish first read Kaplan notes, (Goljan for Path + High Yield for Neuroanat), 2 months do 2nd and 3rd read along with Kaplan QBank, followed by USMLE world and NBME. If scores ok, take in 6th month; if not reprep and take it-7th month.
dr. dream, I totally agree with you this forum is fantastic to get the push we need. meddoc2000, I graduated a year after you and was not in touch with it at all. But do what you are most comfy with. And I too have the same fear that you do...so let's see how it goes!
It is better to start with the subject you fear the most=weakest in, so its good that you are doing Biochem. Alright then, those who are interested, do decide what your goal is for this week and let's get started!

Hi Lily, yes it would be great if you could join too. So at least 4 of us will be doing biochem. Is this your first read? cos it will be my first one... so might be slow...will be doing it with the Kaplan videos..I am thinking I will take at least 12/14 days...not sure.. what do you think/what were you planning?
meddoc2000 and indi_doc howz it going?
determined2007 hows your prep coming along?
dr. dream whats happening at your end..hope you have started some real serious studying.
arel and drssr chime in when you have some time...
sarwat please put in your study plan and progress as well. A motivated study group is the way to go...

I'm doing neurology now. You're right, meddoc2000, I should do my weakest subject first. After I read neurophysiology, I realized I can't retain anything since I'm not familiar with neuroanatomy. So I'm studying Kaplan neuroscience section right now. Keep up the good job, everyone! I'll join the biochemistry study group next week!

Hi meddoc, thanks for stopping by my journal. Although I don't think I am doing so great... I am 2 weeks behind schedule! but thanks for encouraging!
Kaplan helps me because I am an old IMG and I am not the self motivated, disciplined kind. And as it is SO EXPENSIVE, I feel bad for spending so much money and not making good use of it. If you can get the DVDs (audio lectures) that should do as well. I was not a member of this forum and had already paid for Kaplan so I am just trying to tap the most out of it.
Don't be so low, its ok, just take a good break without feeling guilty.... and then sit and make a timetable. I will share with you what I did when I was not progressing.
Put down ON PAPER the hours you plan to study per day, the most productive hours of your study time, plan your study of disciplines (the order weakest to strongest) and then divide them roughly into time spans (giving for eg 10-12 days per subject assuming at least 5 hrs of study per day: of course you can tailor it to your speed) AND START!
Main thing is pacing yourself and being regulated in your approach. Keep tabs on whether you are living up to your time table. But make a realistic one.
And leave some wiggle room as well, so you won't get too disappointed with yourself. This helps to try and get into a disciplined study practice. Regardless of your progress, just make sure you sit to study every day at the planned time for the planned number of hours. Use ear plugs if necessary (these really help me) 
You know every down is followed by an up. So if you are stuck with something, switch. I have started Biochem today and did 2 ch. Left Beh Sc after finishing it kindof
So Good luck, and DON"T DESPAIR.. we are all in the same struggle, and it is not easy, so just keep trying and it WILL get better. Team work will help--I am glad you posted here, as it is pushing me as well.

thanks acintya for all the encouragement.......i need to get my priorities straight........still could not manage to get dvds......trying really hard.......finances is not the problem to join kaplan,,but i ve a one year old to take care of....i lack self discipline too....i guess i was doing wrong by studing word by word and trying to grasp in first reading and now i m just giving a reading to get familiar with things first and then clear concepts later....

Dear Meddoc,
If finance is no problem, better join kaplan . Will see motivation, discipline, speed.
Also now has kap on line PLS to made you study & poke, push you.
But still can keep dvd , which can be review ahead or after when home.
Also two ways, most read fast 1st , get slow 2nd read to get more concepts, some read slow 1st, which ever works for you do that .
If to center kap, do fast or slow way try few days or dvd then you'll know.
But friendly advice, do right at the beginning, read , dvd, write notes same time but , not think too deeply, will be not too fast but not too slow too. Then read again , will be same speed if add more reference book or read to understand more or think deeply than the 1st read.
After all all individual or your day, your mood by the time of study.
The point is have to read & progress .
Read my post at shwe 's journal & Acintya Journal too, there I had post for ways, options for kap dvd center study, etc.

hi shwe....like the old name.........thanx for your kind advice.......went thru ur journal and other threads.......there is so much of energy in ur posts(along with smileys}.......its great the way u encourage others and its a positive feedback knd of thing.......i will surely join kaplan coz i know i need it but that will be my last resort.......only and only if i dont gather all the courage and motivation myself......this is a great site for all of us and with friends like you and acintya.....i think i will achieve my goal....i think NOi know so...
so from today i will disclose my target and see how much do i achieve.... ......2 chaps of biochem today.WAY TO GO

Hi Meddoc,
It must be difficult with a one year old. So I admire that you are still focussing on MLE. It will be difficult, but believe me... DOABLE. Since finances is not the issue, it is great that you decided to go to Kaplan because you get good uninterrupted hours of study.
Biochem is going ok for now, watched DVDs for Ch1-6 and I am planning on finishing Medical Genetics as well cos it is along the same line. Will know only when I do deeper reading. Kaplan is also giving a Personal Learning System (PLS) software so you can get a personal study system. It gives short quizzes at the end of each chapter and a mid-term and final term. All this is available online, so you don't have to go to Kaplan to access it. You can pm me if you like. So I would say, don't wait any longer, just join.

shwe..thanks for the update with kaplan....but i wonder if they..kaplan....gives any promotions in india....i will enquire about it...and go to their off weebsite and check it out.
acintya i finished with 2 chaps but in 2 days..ha ha ........but still hanging on with my booksi will pm you...its more convenient to study at home..when my lil 1 is sleeping....i can join kaplan only after i arrange somebody who can monitor my son.
lily2008 dont worry....cant be slower than me....its a wave like pattern....we are humans after all....we wil pull each other TOGETHER

You're welcome meddoc, since you're home sweet home, you should definitely go for kap center prep , do not delay.
May be students/ Drs there can request there for local, special promotion like free 1 mo, 2 week, if introduce friend to be in kaplan usmle while you're in center will get 1 mo free each for each of you & vice versa. It happens in my local city here, sicne long good few yrs ago.
Can you imagine, one Dr. very senior from India , has very old kaplan LN way back books from India center she'd attended . That Dr introduced 9 at least to the kap usmle centre , some 4 to 5 or few less than that . But at least 1 or 2 intro , so all new & old Dr get free mo. , depends the total # of the intro .
Also can pay the payment of the cost by 3 installations[ 3 seperate time, but total will be same cost ].
Read all ahead the kap Ln, ahead for familial, & understanding even old one. That will speed up, smooth up your center study.
GL happy success study & go for it to the kap center prep,
