A 56-year-old, known alcoholic, male is admitted to ICU for hepatic encephalopathy. He was started on oral neomycin, lactulose, low protein and high carbohydrate diet. PE: BP 116/78mmHg, PR 78/min, BT 37.5C, RR 14/min
Lab: Hb 10.2%
WBC 7400
Hct 27%
Platelets 42000/ml
PT 18''
INR 2.02
PTT 31''
Which of the following should be given to the patient at this time?
A. Fresh frozen plasma
B. Cryoprecipitate
C. Vitaman K
D. Platelets
E. Packed RBC

The answer is C, though

but vit K is of no use when liver can't synthesize coagulation factors!!

Why FFP, the patient is not bleeding? PT/INR are not too bad. the answer is vit K.
