hey.i know it must be difficult but remember, that happens to a whole lot of people out there.so just keep at it.and read, read, read.

  #3

someone said that if you answer one correct question, you get one point. so that means, you only need to answer two extra questions correctly, it is not that hard.

only 2 more points. don't give up!

Have you taken the NBMEs? Try those to see where your weak points are. And I am talking about the ones you pay for from nbme.org, not the freebies floating around. The ones you pay for will give you a performance profile that will show you your weak spots. That way, you can focus your time on those areas. Another benefit is that the score correlates nicely to the real step 1 score.

hey there,
dont be dejected coz i was at your stage a few months back
see
i took nbme 1 and got really low 300 on it
and after a month review of just 40 % of usmle world.
i took nbme 2 and got 400 so this thing really works,.
ofcourse you need determination,
as suggested by someone i am taking nbme 4 on 20th april and my exam date is 5th may.
i took step 1 in nov 2006 but didnt do well and got just 161/66
so, this time i am sure and definitely positive to do well
just dont give up
and assimilate whatever you read
kaplan+ fa+ goljan+ uw is the best
you can do qbank if you want too
but i wont recommend, maybe just skim through it
thats all
then
all the best
have fun
and remember what i learnt recently
" ITS THE JOURNEYS THAT BRING YOU MOST HAPPINESS AND NOT THE DESTINATIONS"

Hey,

Why not Kap Q bank, ie Q review[ regular Q bank, IV Q bank... symptom wise one] plus physio one ??

Kap Q bnk as all above have more than kap LN, dvd, Golj , FA, do not know UW.. so new , but will do too , since everyone is doing it.
Do not missed out all kap Q bank, it is another study, learning tool & practice tool.
Check kap Q bnk Q here then if like look more or buy it to get latest.
As far as I know, kap centre prep gives you regular Q bank, web prep, extra 2000 Q for chp or subj or ? ...Q & extra QQ, tests etc with response to your Q re; the lectures or Q or any. So write notes on kap Q bnk Q & explaination if you like or, just review more on that.
Do not go for exam till NBME is good, you still have alot of time, review, review kapLN, DVD if you've write down the notes, QQQ, Golj .

GL GL GL happy success study,
All the best

Hey , if plan UW in early May, why not get their discount for last day of Apr , when offer end to save may be 30$ more or less .

GL , also on D day do not be too nervous that block your Brian. had frinds with very good IQ, study hard, but thier too much worry, nervousness make them speechless, frozen at the time or written or clinical pt case exam. I saw them, I feel for them .Most are my good friends, some are even scholars.

So relax, deep breath in b4 starting the Q, block, train self now while not in the exm Rm , with some timed Q .

All the best nodnod

Wow, it used to be only $40 not that long ago.

i just took the uw... do i solve it subject wise... or it doesnt matter wat so ever?

subject-wise right after you finish that topic. Like all biochemistry questions, all GI questions or all Cardio qs, etc. I plan to do all Qs once I've "finished" with my 2nd reading. Mostly Im doing 50 to 60% now per subject but cumulatively its around 47% (started out 32% hehe) so I have a long way to go.

I took the test March 2007 and failed. 182/74. In my opinion step 1 was hard because I didn't know what questions to expect from th exam. Sure, I did the Qs from the Cd that they gave us but since at the time I didn't have access to the explanations to the answers I felt kinda lost after that.

I should have listened to my cousin (an old IMG like me who got her ECFMG certificate last month) and started UW 3 months before the exam. The questions are really tough at the beginning but after a while you get used to thinking on your feet.

But most of all what killed me was ENDURANCE. Man, by the 4th block your concentration goes down tremendously. Add to that the stress, my mind was wiped out and by the end of the 7th block I was totally wasted. confused

In spite of this, I too have learned from my mistakes and I am more determined to beat this exam. grin

thats the spirit, never to give up.
so singlen, what do you think is the best way to prepare for those 8 hours blocks?
Im planing to practice one simulated on friday, thursday and just review and do 400 in a row for saturday and sunday and take a 2 days rest for the big day.

Do you think UW is harder than the USMLE?

well.. to prepare for the final day... i have had set my time table for like 3 months b4, i avoid napping btwn 8am n 5pm. n also take simulated tests b4 the main exam.
i dnt think the UW is ne tougher than the USMLE....
i have given the exam twice...

That sounds ok. But I think the most important thing DURING the exam is to take frequent breaks in between. You dont need 1hr for your lunch break. go to the restroom and washup or something to keep you awake.

So UW is easier than the testconfused

yap i think usmle is harder than UW, but the thing i like about UW is it gives you the actual feel of the test. And I noticed there are some questions there that appeared on my test but were presented in a different way. As most of the other ppl said, you have to know the CONCEPTS cold.

I hope we pass our next exam. Mine is on June 16th already.

  #24

OH... SO SOON?
well... all the best.... i hope u do well.... i know how it feels...
BEST OF LUCK!

Thanks drnaik. I need a lot of prayers to get through this exam, to lessen the anxiety, the stress and all...

yup. I wanted to take it the soonest i could while most of the stuff were still, well, fresh to me. And I tell you: its not easy studying, maintaining a household and taking care of the kids at the same time. (my wife works as a nurse here in the US, btw). I try to squeeze at least 3 hours a day to fully study. Most of the time its between 4 to 6hrs if I have some backup around the house. If not, I just listen to Goljan over and over. Man, this guys is good. Too bad I wasn't able to get the audio notes sooner...
