Hi I have little confusion, according to Kaplan spouse abuse is not reportable under law and doctor is supposed to just give guidance and counselling to the patient. In UW its mentioned that doctor is bound to report it to authorities, so can anyone tell me what is correct? Thankyou

i would go with the Kaplan answer as people have a higher probability of getting it right with Kaplan.

Doctor can help or say report when the victim is unable to speak up (child) or absolutely helpless and handicap (elderly). When we see in spouse it is usually accepting abuse.Victim is able to speak up or oppose but doesnot...so in that case counseling is best option. And in reporting if the victim has accepted abusive relationship it will lead nowhere.

They Havent Specifically said that the Doctor CAn Contact eh Legal Services n Report Crime but since he is the First Contact of an Abuse Victim He/She Shud Encourage the Act itself. Havent Found Any Data which Or Article Which Binds the Doctor to Report Absue.

This vigenette is about a 39 yr old lady who tells her doctor that her husband has been abusing her physically for 4 years and she shows various burns marks to him. She tells him that she had bought a gun and in the evening she is going to kill him. In the explaination they have mentioned that you have to report abuse and the plan to authroities as spouse and child abuse are mandatory reportable issues. I didn't paste the question here coz I don't know whether it will violate copyright law.

that guy at kaplan says , a spouse can report by herself if she wishes to, so we needn't do it. that seems reasonable. on the other hand its mandatory to report child/elderly abuse as they might not be able to do it on their own. pretty convincing

Dr.Steven daugherty said that spousal abuse laws vary state by state just like abortion rules..so I dont think they'll ask a controversial question.

Falks, the vignette is not about the abuse, that is a confounder. This is about the Tarasoff decision. The woman is plannign TO KILL HIS HUSBAND. So, if she is with you, you stop her. If she left, you 1. Call 911 2. Call the husband telling he is in danger and has to leave the house, come to you. Together to the police. YOU HAVE TO ACT IN PROTECTION OF OTHERS. YOU HAVE TO VIOLATE CONFIDENTIALITY. On the other hand, abuse is reportable in persons under 18 and over 65.

werther...I agree that you have to tell the authorities about the killing part but in the explaination they have told that you have to report BOTH to the authroities i.e killing plan of wife and her being abused and they have added that spouse abuse is mandatory reporting.

werther is 100%... oldkid, can you show the other options? The facts are as werther said, but sometimes the options are quite tricky. BTW... If I have to choose between a concept from kaplan or one from UW... Kaplan is an old dog in this matter, UW is quite new for the step 1.

Hi, In that case re kaplan vs UW, then should we do kap only, no UW, Q for step 1. By doing UW, any more learning in terms of...any more chance of increasing of the score than by doing kaplan Q only??? Any suggestion??? Thanks.
