I would like to know, regarding the difficulty, IM or FP is "easier" to get in ( I mean less difficult, to be exact). Beside those 2, which specialty is considered IMG friendly. Thank you and best of luck.

Apurva said "fp has bcome very picky of late. i wud say psych, ob(lately) , prelim surg are easier to get into." I usually agree with you apurva...but Ob/Gyn( I should say this was the toughest match for Ob in the last few years) was very tough this year to match into unless one was looking for really below avg programs in NY and NJ...Many of my friends with good creds have not matched...some of them who have got in have accepted prematches out of desperation for visas from the above mentioned programs...Last year 34 positions went to scramble and this year it was just 6 and they disappeared in the first hour of scramble! Moreover I think catmd04 tried for Ob/Gyn this year... I still think if one tailors ones CV and personal statement, FM is still MUCH easier to get into than Ob/Gyn...

no idea abt obs but fp is difficult if u need visa. there are very few programs that sponsor h1. u need to show dedication as they have the bad impression of img's leaving them.if u don't need visa the fp is very easy to get into.

Thank you apurva, hookorcrook and aajkal, Thank you very much for you information. I have applied to OBGYN this year and did not match. I had 8 Ivs in OBGYNs (5Univ and 3 CU). Some of them came when I had only step 1 score or just 24h after application.... I have a feeling that OBGYN is tough- very tough to get in. Its not because I did not match in OBGYN and tried to blaim or explain anything, but... Best wishes to all of you guys.

Catmd04...A friend of mine had applied for Ob/Gyn, IM, and FM and she had postgrad exp in Ob/Gyn from India and excellent scores. She got prematches in IM and FM which she did not accept and went for Ob/Gyn match and ended up unmatched.... This should probably tell you about the relative difficulties in these branches...she did not need a visa and of course the prematch in IM was from a below avg NY prgrm but the FM prematch was from a fairly good prgrm...hope this helps..
