Is it possible to do fellowship in Pain Medicine after Internal Medicine residency?

i heard it is a fellowship after anesthesia , and now i heard it is gaining popularity among americans

Pain Medicine fellowship can be done after anesthesiology and neurology residency...anesthesiology is winning the race and neurology is playing catch up....

it can also be done after PMR and psychiatry residency.....the problem with IM and FM would be that you need a board who will allow you to sit in board certification exam....

I know of people that did it after IM, but do not know where.

Can somebody please explain to me what it is exactly you are doing if you are pain medicine doctor? I am not very familiar with this area, and just curious? Why is it getting popular? Thanks!!
