u can repeat the yr. its just that there are funding issues involved which i believe shudnt affect u. u can repeat prelim yrs. transitional im not sure if its easy or tuf to get a position. sorry.

i still have some confusion y do ppl shy away from prelim surgery then. i mean if they do one yr of prlim suregry is it possible t apply next yr in a cat suregry for PGY 1 position.

hi Muzammil,
I have the same Q as yours but I looked at a quota of a surg program, I realized that the PGY 1 has 37 position but only 7 pos. in PGY2. Where do 30 others go? 37 people compete for 7 pos. in PGY2, I think that's why IMG dont want to apply in prelim surg. Competition in Surg is too high.
This is just my assumption

transitional as i hear is not easy for IMGs !!
check the FREIDA statistics :

only 7.2% IMGs !!
i think because the work is lighter and the pay is good. it is like a year of rest for americans
