Hey guys...

First of all is there anyone doing research right now in an institution in US? Since the surgical programs in US has became extremely competetive it's no secret that one should strengthen his/her aplication with materials other than just score sheets especially given the fact that we're IMGs. I read people mentioning about USCEs and how research activities are not considered in these kind of experiences. But what I believe is by getting to know the PIs and of course, by the way letting them to know us, this application process would proceed smoothly. The best way to accomplish this is getting a research position in an istitution of your desire. There lies the big question. How on earth a PI would grant a posititon to a guy who is recently graduated from a med school overseas? I mean afterall we don't get to practise the complicated research techniqes in our own med schools. We practically know nothing about experimental design, statistical analysis, and experimental techniques right after graduation. I was thinking about sparing my two precious years on research just before matching. At this point what I was wondering about is how to get a position in a lab. What points I should be emphasizing? Is just a motivation sufficient? Or again do I need LoRs? I need the guidance of you guys who have passed this road before me. Thanks in advance, take care and good luck...
