hi all... 'm a current final yr img.. frm wat i've seen in my coll is dat all goin to d US.. r doin sm reserch or d other... thay say..it helps in gettin agud university..if u've atleast 3-4 projects under ur belt!!! 'm very worried.. as i'v cleared my step1.. bt i have not YET thought abt research etc..
pl...pl.. tel me d truth.. i'l still 've my internship to do a research if its so imp.. its jus.. i'm gettin very worried abt it n nt concentrarin on my final yr... stupid i knw.. still... pl.guide..

Well, you said it right. Research is important if you want to land in a good univ program. Not so much if your goal is private practice. The choice is yours.
PS: The Guys were right... English isn't a phonetic language... it has special rules for pronunciation and it is very difficult to desipher if you turn your own pronunciation directly into writing...

ha ha.. hello all.. i'm very sorry for using short forms.. blame d sms facility of the cell phones.. really sorry guys.. well... i posted the same (wid same spellings!!) on step1 forum.. so i guess.. all willing to contribute.. lets do it there.. cos many people responded.. ya i agree wid mufurc.. its imp.. wat i wanted to knw is.. how much?? do i risk my final yr in pursuit of a research?? or.. do it in internship??
also... wat topics are considered relevant or... which field of reserch appeals to d US PDs?? eg.. in india.. anythin on malaria..or dengue is great.. or on drug resistance of TB bacilli is.. wats hot in US?? can sm1 tel?? sorry.. someone...

The question is NOT so much what is relevant/ hot in research in the USA but more like what it is that INTERESTS YOU. Research is not a joke... or if you think it is, you probably should not be doing it...
Anyways, my point is you should do research in the field that YOU ARE INTERESTED IN! Do you want to be a neurosurgeon? Do brain tumors or vascular stuff... want to a be IM and interested in infectios diseases? Do AIDS! It's really your decision. In the USA you can find groups studying virtually anything... Find out what you like FIRST then you 'll be able to find a group doing research on that... That is easy.
I am getting the feeling that your problem is that you might be unsure about the career path you want to choose. This is a tough point in everybody's life... We all have been there...at this junction there's no one else that can help you but yourself!

'm pretty serious.. wat my prob is.. i'm unsure of wat to priortize... and because i'm outside US.. i can't get the hang of this thing... n its importance.. the picture's getting clearer( thanks to the response here).. bt i also agree.. its me who'l help myself in the end.. wat interests me?? d heart!!! haha!! again.. i'm not kidding.. thanku again..
