how long have you been practicing medicine in UK? I don't mean to discourage you, however, if you have been out of school for a long time, you may have forgot some of the basic science knowledge, and that is what step 1 is testing on. do you know the procedures in order to get licensed in the US? you should check that out so you know what you will be doing for the next few years. It is a hard work.

spitmetal Very helpful! Much appreciated! Thank you! Summer Thunder Firstly, becoming a doctor in all countries is not easy. As for basic science knowledge, once one takes any examination ones knowledge will decrease. I have passed equivelant exams before (2006), with adequate revision any exam is passable. I am aware of the procedures required for licensing in the US and thanks to spitmetal now know how I can apply for accreditation. If you have anythinhg helpful to add, I would appreciate it.

To get a residency in the US you will need to pass the steps and get several documents to complete your application. ECFMG accreditation is only one of the thing to do. You need to be informed about the whole process before you make your plan and to take each step. Good Luck!!
