I graduated in 1996 which in 2004 was finally succeeded in obtaining my medical diploma from middle east due to selective services and other political reason. In 2005 I matched into a 3 years program but I was not offered the contract for the following year and didnot compete the 12 month either. Several month unsatisfactory evals due to family member illness. I have already passed Step1, 2, 3 by 88 first attempt. I could not secure a position and even during Scramble when I contacted many programs, I was told that they do not accept more than 5 years post grad into the program. I was wondering if I should give up medicine or go back to medical school to get a fresh medical diploma? What options do you suggest? Any idea is welcome. Pharmacy, Dentistry, PsyD, DC, OD, or research.

I am not sure if you can actually go back to medical school to get a fresh diploma - unless you are planning to go to school here, in the US - which can be hell competitive and hell expensive. To be honest, given the bad evaluations that you have accumulated, it might be difficult for you to get into a program again, especially if you need a visa. I am not saying that it is impossible, but remember, there will always be questions as to why you had to leave your program and you previous PD will often be contacted for the same. Also, since you do have 1 year of PGY! behind you, I am not sure if you will be allowed to repeat the same in the same field - federal grant issues. If you are thinking of allied brancehs, I would suggest considering Physiscian's Assistant degree - a 2 year course and you earn well,,,and technically practise medicine, within the limitations of the degree. True, it may not satisfy you to the fullest, but well, life is a strange thing and often it boils down to making the most of the options you have. Another option is probably going back to your home country and practising there...I am not sure how acceptable this might be for you. Pharmacy is a good option too...well paid, decent job once you graduate. MPH might also be something to consider, depending on how much you like/dislike working in epidemiology and public health. Job prospects are good after MPH. goodluck.

Well, about repeating PGY1 in the same field - yes, you can for sure, you can do it even twice, if you want to. It is just some programs will not accept your prliminary PGY1 as categorical PGY1, so you will have to repeat it anyway. At least, don't worry about that issue Good Luck!
